Clean Beauty Swaps

It’s no secret that the chemicals we ingest on a daily basis from conventional and processed food are terrible for our bodies. Recently, we have seen more attention on intentionality with what we nourish our bodies with, however, why are we still putting these chemicals on the largest organ we have, our skin?

The personal care industry has almost zero regulation (even less than the food industry!), so it can be hard to know who to trust. For your everyday questions on product safety, suggestions, and more, we turn to the Environmental Working Group, or the EWG http://www.ewg.org/. They even offer a free smartphone app so you can scan any product and feel confident in your purchase at a moment’s notice.

We know that it can be even harder to part ways with your favorite beauty brands. But fear not, because there are fantastic brands that will make you look and feel good without sacrificing your health. One of our favorites is RMS Beauty, whose makeup is moisturizing and offers full and natural looking coverage.

Clean beauty doesn’t stop with makeup, it goes all the way to your teeth. You don’t need to sacrifice white teeth when you toss out those whitening strips. A cheaper and healthier product is activated charcoal. Simply add it to your daily brushing routine and avoid all of those sensitivity pains!

When it comes to taking off your makeup, conventional makeup remover might be doing your skin more harm than good. They can contain formaldehyde releasing chemicals, along with irritants that dry the skin and cause it to break out. The solution is simple; coconut oil. Take a quarter sized, or less, of coconut oil in between your hands and rub it together until it becomes liquid. Then, rub it in a circular motion on your face, and finish by wiping it off with a warm wash cloth. This, not only, removes your makeup, but also moisturizes and conditions your face, leaving you with lasting hydrated and smooth skin.
